This is the album that turned me on to the CDB and I have to admit I was disappointed the other albums didn't sound this good. No filler, no weak tracks - a classic that bridges that gap between country and southern rock. If you're a fan of Skynyrd, the Allmans or the Outlaws, you need this in your collection. That's not a comment on the quality of his other work, though; it's high praise for High Lonesome. While all of Charlie's albums contain at least one or two great songs, he hasn't yet managed to match this album's depth. The two slow songs ("High Lonesome" and "Slow Song") are very evocative, and Roll Mississippi is rollicking.
MILLION MILE REFLECTIONS) or FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN, you'll like HIGH LONESOME. If you like his later work (e.g. HIGH LONESOME is a great Charlie Daniels album. It has several great songs.
In addition you might want to pick up other CDB classics such as Fire on the Mountain, Nightrider, and Saddle tramp, which came before the band went commercial. If you enjoy southern rock guitar playing do not hesitate to pick up this album. This album isn extremely underated. This album is chocked full of great southern/country rock songs with some fine picking.
Carolina is a type of song Charlie fans know well were he tells the listener why he loves his home. This is very good Charlie Daniels Album but it has some weak spots that only big fans can enjoy. CDB fans will like this album and appreciate the effort in finding it. The LP had a differant track line and side A was the best side of a CDB record and side B contained the weaknesses. The best cut on the album is Billy the KID. High Lonesome is another favorite of mine.
